Utah Mining Association (UMA)

Back

Utah Mining Association

We began our business serving mining and other industries that have helped keep Utah running.

UMA LogoToday, we continue our support of energy and mining with our membership in the Utah Mining Association.

Mining supports the very foundation of our economy. From the stone and gravel used to build roads and lay foundations for homes and buildings, to coal and uranium used to generate more than half of the nation's electricity, to the copper wire that connects billions of computers to a global social and commercial network, our economy and way of life depend on the vital resources provided by mining.

The Utah Mining Association (UMA), established in 1915, helps to promote and protect the mining industry. UMA provides its members with full-time professional industry representation before the State Legislature; various government regulatory agencies on the federal, state and local levels; other associations, and business and industry groups.

Education in mining and minerals is encouraged to further the understanding of the role this critical industry and its products play in people's lives, and to foster a spirit of community cooperation.

Mission Statement & Vision

Having a deep appreciation of where our company began provides us with a focused direction and vision of our future.

We’re proud to be the largest, privately held distributor in the Intermountain West – at the same time maintaining competitive prices and excellent customer service. We accomplish this by hiring only the industry’s most experienced professionals, who also just happen to be good people who like to make a difference.

Our humble beginnings trace back to 1916, when Rudolph Orlob founded the Mountain States Rubber Company. Mountain States Rubber Company provided the mining industry with much-needed products such as packing, industrial tires and conveyor belts. Ten years later, amidst a booming Utah economy, Mr. Orlob started Industrial Supply to better serve a wide range of emerging industries.

Today, Rudolph Orlob’s family still owns and manages Industrial Supply, and is continually adapting the company to meet your needs. We currently offer over 40,000 products to the construction, aerospace and defense, utilities, government, electronic, mining and manufacturing industries. We’re proud to be affiliated with leading industrial vendors such as 3M, Kimberly Clark and Dewalt, companies that have been in business for decades and can bring literally a lifetime of knowledge and product experience to you.

Green Initiatives

Green Initiatives Logo

For more than 90 years, we have been committed to helping you find new and innovative solutions that meet the changing needs of business.

That commitment continues to hold true today as the needs of business, and the global environment, evolve. With our green efforts - including centralized distribution and integrated supply systems - we have successfully helped customers reduce transportation and energy costs, and improve their green programs.

In addition, our suppliers are green leaders who have highly-valued accreditation and qualifications, including LEED certification, USCAP partnerships and USGBC membership. More importantly, our suppliers share our long-term commitment to you, and are improving their green efforts as they develop their product lines for:

  • Adhesives
  • Chemicals
  • Janitorial Supplies
  • Lubricants
  • Paints
  • Paper Products
  • Spill Containment

While green status with the Environmentally Preferable Purchasing program (EPP) can improve a company’s selection to perform work on the more than 1.5 million proposed federal infrastructure projects, these green principles also generate other benefits, such as:

  • Enabling construction companies to better meet their environmental goals
  • Improving workers’ safety, health and productivity
  • Reducing liabilities
  • Decreasing consumption and disposal costs
  • Increasing the availability of EPP products in the marketplace

Many companies are discovering that a long-term, positive impact on the environment can be as simple as changing what they use in their operations and processes. We recognizes that need and works closely with our suppliers to find cost-effective and eco-friendly products for your workplace.

Inventory Management

We provide the service you need to keep your operation running smoothly

Getting inventory to the right people and the right places can be an ongoing challenge for any business. We understand that having tools and supplies where you need them, when you need them, is integral to keeping your business in operation. Our scalable solutions can help you streamline and manage your inventory regardless of the level of your tool and supply demands.

A Philosophy for Ultimate Efficiency

Efficiency means the world to us. That’s why we integrate finely honed methods such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma, a defect-elimination system developed by Motorola. It’s all part of our effort to cut wasted time, energy and materials from the supply chain at every turn.

Vendor Managed Inventory Systems

Our VMI systems put the materials you need directly on your shelves at the point of use. We manage your supplies so that you can efficiently run your operation. VMI systems also provide important consumption information so your inventory investment is managed properly. Put simply, our VMI drivers put materials in place so you don’t have to.

Bin Stocking Service

Designed to optimize your supply chain, this program designates an Industrial Supply representative to manage and maintain the inventory levels at your facilities.

Smart Vending Technology

Picture it: A vending machine that dispenses supplies to employees as needed, while also tracking inventory and alerting us to replenishment needs! It’s easy with our smart Cribmaster™ vending technology. Our inventory control system helps you track and distribute tools and services in your plant. That means more control and security, and more accurate tracking of inventory and budgets.

Efficient Bar Coding

Our innovative wireless bar code scanning system helps you receive, issue and return items, mobilize tracking with a portable scanner, and log actions into your database in real time. We use bar-coding and scanners to implement vendor managed supply systems, Kanban programs and other tool-room management programs, or to facilitate receiving materials quickly and accurately.

We can design an inventory solution that fits around your unique needs and specifications. Contact our Inventory Management Specialists to get started on building your custom inventory solution.

These process solutions help us maximize quality and value at your business in measurable ways, and leverage the processes you already have. Contact us to schedule a consultation to discuss how we can help you save time and money by implementing available improvements to your processes.
